Grace Leibowitz

Hey NFTY!! My name is Grace Leibowitz (she/her), and I am currently a sophomore at Liberty high school. In my free time, I love hanging out with my friends, volunteering at Friendship Circle, raising money for Relay for Life and adding to my chapstick collection. This year, I have been a Social Justice Chair for NFTY-NW, and I also was the Social Justice Intern/SAVP for TDSY. I’ve learned a lot from both these positions, and I think that my experiences from both will really help me on a regional level. I love the NFTY-NW community so much, and it would be an honor to serve as your next SAVP.

What is your favorite type of weather?
The perfect weather to me is when it’s the beginning of spring in Washington. It’s just so perfect to me when the sky is clear, the cherry blossoms are blooming, but it’s still cold outside. All of this change with the new flowers popping up is the perfect beginning to a new season.

What is your superpower?
You will never catch me without a chapstick in hand. That’s why my superpower is the ability of saving people (including myself) from having chapped lips. I always am carrying at least 2 chapsticks/lip balms on me, so in case of a dire chapped lips emergency, I am always there to save the day.

Candidates for Religious and Cultural Vice President

Eli Pollack

Hey NFTY NW! I’m Eli (he/him) and I am a junior at Garfield high school in Seattle. From spending summers at camp Kalsman to working as a songleader for the past two years, I’ve always been a part of the Jewish community. And that has continued recently from my time in Israel and at NFTY this year. Outside of NFTY and temple I love to spend time outdoors going backpacking, skiing, and camping especially in my scouts BSA troop where I am currently the senior patrol leader. I run cross country as well as track, and swim on the Garfield swim team. I’m really excited to experience more with NFTY and to have this amazing opportunity of running for a leadership position!

What is your favorite type of weather?
Actually, I don’t have a favorite type of weather. Now of course sunny skies are better than rainy days, and snowflakes are better than shapeless slush, but without the bad weather we would never appreciate the good weather. Having a variety of weather makes all the different types more interesting because if it was only one kind all the time, it would get boring real quick.

What item would you be on a salad bar?
Back in preschool, I was always proud of my early belief in the “tomatoes are fruits” theory, because I adopted it well before most of my classmates did. In fact, most of them thought that tomatoes were vegetables. So I would be a tomato because of our long history and because I have always liked them.

Sydney Spiegel

Hi NFTY Northwest! I’m Sydney Spiegel (she/her) and I’m running to be the next Financial Vice President. I am a born and raised Washingtonian and am currently a sopho

more at Issaquah High School. I belong to TDHS and am serving as the Youth Engagement and Hospitality intern. In my free time I love playing soccer, hanging out with friends, watching Netflix, volunteering at Friendship Circle, and I especially love to paint!

What is your favorite type of weather?
As a true Pacific Northwesterner my favorite weather has to be rain. Rainy days are so peaceful and cozy, and they always seem to put me in my deepest thoughts and give me a lot of time to work on sketches. Also, the freshness and greenery that comes after a rain shower is truly beautiful and never fails to bring me a sense of clarity.

What item would you be on a salad bar?
If I could be any item on a salad bar it would be croutons because I work well with others (aka other parts of the salad) but I can also be very good on my own, because who hasn’t eaten a handful of just plain croutons?

Candidates for Head Songleader

Daniel Flash

Hey NFTY-NW! I’m Daniel Flash (He/Him) and I am currently a sophomore at Liberty High School in Renton, Washington. I am finishing up my year as BATY’s RCVP and am excited to run for the Head Song Leader position. Outside of school I enjoy playing soccer, biking, skiing, swimming, and playing guitar. I song lead during services at my temple on Tuesday nights and I am excited to bring my skills to NFTY! I love meeting new people so if you ever see me feel free to come and say hi!

What is your Superpower?

Having the last name of Flash, most people think that I would want to have super speed. But I would actually love to be able to teleport anywhere I want. I’m a big fan of Harry Potter and I always thought it was super cool that they could teleport to places just by thinking about it. I wouldn’t have to walk to places anymore and I could be anywhere I wanted in the matter of seconds. It would also be fun to scare people when I magically appear right next to them.

What Item would you be on a salad bar?

If I were to be a salad bar item, I would have to be the classic crouton. It’s the greatest topping of all time and why would I not want to be the greatest of all time? It adds the perfect crunch to any salad making it not a want, but a necessity. Also, the good thing about croutons is that you can have a bowl of only croutons. You can’t do that with many other toppings. A crouton covers all the criteria needed to be the best topping and that is why I would be it.
